What do I need to do to prepare my home for Airbnb guests?

You have been told how thousands of people are earning money by renting their homes on ‘home sharing’ sites like Airbnb- but you might not realise that a little (or a lot) of preparation is required to get your home to the cleanliness standards expected from today’s Airbnb guests.

ManageMyAir founder Cheryl Barnes has looked after holiday properties for over 10 years and we’ve compiled this short list to help potential Airbnb hosts prepare their home for guests.

Here are just a few of the commonly missed areas that might cost you those precious 5 star reviews…

  1) Crumbs/dirt/mess in your cutlery draw

Airbnb guests DEMAND cleanliness – especially where they are eating or washing. Organise your cutlery draw and remove those fancy, redundant accessories that probably never get used. And yours may not look like this one, but ensure the crumbs and dirt are cleaned too- it’s a commonly overlooked cleaning task. ManageMyAir can help organise cleaning

2) Dirty/messy under sink cupboard

If your under sink cupboard looks like this then you have some work to do!

Airbnb guests usually leave their hosts home clean and lovely- encourage this by having a nicely organised and clean space for your cleaning products. (If you want to go the extra mile you could also label in English what each product is- this is super helpful for non Danish guests!)

3) Leave space for your Airbnb guests shoes and coats!

You might not need your heavy jackets and boots for your holiday but do think about storing some of your jackets and shoes away.  Guests appreciate a place to hang their things so give them their special place. (You also guarantee a great first impression with an uncluttered tidy entrance hall)

4) Remote control instructions

Most of us struggle with even our own remotes – save your guests some frustration and write them some simple instructions. It will be massively appreciated by some which equals great reviews

5) An emergency key

Do you have a “worst case scenario” back up plan in case of lost keys? If not, do it.  Leave a set with friends / neighbours, or managemyair.dk can also be your emergency key contact.
